Read on to know more about what you need to prepare for your application.

What Type of Work Needs a Company Construction Licence in NSW?

A partnership or corporation needs to have a contractor licence for the following:

  • Residential building work wherein the projected market cost of materials and labour is greater than AUD $5,000 (including GST).
  • All plumbing, gas fitting, and drainage work
  • All air-conditioning and refrigeration work (except for appliances that are plugged in)
  • All electrical wiring works

Types of NSW Company Builders Licence

There are several types of licences given in New South Wales. These depend on whether the applicant wants to contract with another party or oversee work.

  • Company licence

A company licence permits advertising to do work and contract with other parties.

  • Qualified supervisor certificate

Only individuals can receive this certificate. The licence also doesn’t permit to contract for work. However, a company is required to have a nominated supervisor to perform work. The nominated supervisor must be either a full-time employee or company director, and hold a qualified supervisor certificate in the related category of work.

  • Endorsed contractor licence

This is granted to individuals who applied for a contractor licence. They must have the experience and qualifications needed to become a qualified supervisor. The words “contractor licence (Q)” are printed on the card to confirm equivalence to a Qualified Supervisor Certificate.
